It was the semi final clash which was played at the Old Trafford stadium.
Both sides lined up their strongest teams on display, despite Pep Guardiola missing some key players due to Covid-19 outbreak in the squad days ago.
Manchester City approached the game without a regular striker but they showed class in their delivery.
It was John Stones who gave City the lead after 50 minutes before captain Fernandinho shot from the edge of the box made it 2-0.
One player who was disappointed in his game on the night happen to be Bruno Fernandes. The Portuguese had been voted Manchester United player of the month of December.
But he couldn't find his feet in the game and struggled to create chances in the game.
Taking to his twitter page, he expressed his sadness but maintained that they will continue to improve and fight to win trophies for the club.
He tweeted: "I’m very sad and disappointed to once again don’t reach a final. We have a lot to fight yet but we have to learn and understand that we can’t make the same mistakes anymore. We need to make an effort to further improve and be able to fight for trophies!"
The result meant that Manchester City have qualified for the final at the Wembley stadium. Pep Guardiola side who are the holders of the cup competition will face Tottenham in the final.
If you recall that Tottenham defeated Championship side, Brentford days ago.
