"They defended well" - Jurgen Klopp defends his players after loss to Southampton

Liverpool lost 1-0 against Southampton at the St Mary's on Monday night.

The Reds slipped to a 1-0 defeat thanks to an early goal from Danny Ings after a defensive error. 

It was gathered started after James Ward-Prowse floated a free kick and Trent Alexander-Arnold failed to follow up the run of Danny Ings who looped the ball over Alisson Becker. 

But Jurgen Klopp says the goal his side conceded was well defended. 

“The goal was defended,” Klopp said when asked to comment on Ings’ winner. “We had a player who is there to hit the ball but he misses it. 

“As good as the set-piece is, we have a player there and he misses it. It is a great finish, but we should have defended it.”
