Mikel Arteta has given an update on Thomas Partey's fitness ahead of Arsenal's clash with Crystal Palace in the mid week.
If you recall that Partey was sidelined with a thigh issue after a 3-0 defeat to Aston Villa on November 9. He suffered a setback during a derby loss to Tottenham on December 5 2020.

Since then, the former Atletico Madrid man has been undergoing several rehabilitation programme to get him back to full fitness.

But the manager believes that Partey has been doing well in training but wasn't ready for Saturday game against Newcastle in the third round of the FA Cup.

If you recall that the Gunners defeated Steve Bruce resilient side 2-0 courtesy goals from Smith Rowe and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after 120 minutes.

On the reason he didn't select Partey for the game against Newcastle, Arteta said: "Yes, because we assessed the situation, how much training he's done, the boxes that he ticked and he was still a little bit short."

Arsenal completed the deal for Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid for 45m pounds on deadline day transfer window last year.

Arsenal have been on good form so far in the Premier League. The Gunners have enjoyed three wins on the bounce which was against Chelsea, Brighton and West Brom.

This means Arsenal are just six points away from the top four spot ahead of their game against Palace in the Premier League this week.

Mikel Arteta went ahead to state that Partey might be available in the squad for Thursday's game.

He added: "Hopefully we will have him in the squad on Thursday. Let's see how he trains in the next couple of days. He's really good at the moment."
