Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez both scored twice, while Ilkay Gundogan was also on target as Manchester City got back to winning ways and moved 14 points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
James Ward-Prowse and Che Adams found the net for Southampton, who remain 14th and have now lost eight of their last 11 games.
City look to continue their momentum away at Fulham this weekend, while Southampton host Brighton in a big game down the bottom end of the table.
