Barcelona lost 2-1 in the second leg of the El Clásico on Saturday night at the Stefano Alfredo stadium. 
Ahead of the game, Barcelona were a point ahead of Real Madrid as they were in second place and Madrid third respectively. 

Ronald Koeman's side went behind following some beautiful football played from the back after Fede Valverde broke Barcelona's defense line and found Lucas Vasquez on the right hand side. 

The winger low cross was met with the back flick from in form Karim Benzema to give the Los Blancos the lead. 

From then, Zinedine Zidane side took control of the game as they controlled possession until the second goal came from a set taken by Toni Kroos. 
Ronald Koeman tried to change his formation and made substitutions in the second half. 

Then Barcelona's defender Oscar Mingueza pulled one back as consolation. 

Zinedine Zidane side were reduced to ten men after Casemiro was shown a late red card but they held on to claim all three points. 

The loss has dropped Barcelona to third while Real Madrid move top of La Liga with 66 points. 

After the game, Barcelona's new president Joan Laporta has taken to his social media space to give his thoughts on the match. 

Laporta revealed that Barcelona cane still win the title given there are eight games left to play. He added that Barcelona will challenge till the end. 

He tweeted: "We have eight matches ahead to achieve our objective of winning la Liga. I have no doubt that our team will fight until the end. Visca el Barça!"
