Joe Willock who is on loan at Newcastle was the hero again with his winning goal against Sheffield at the St James Park.
The loanee's sixth consecutive Premier League goal proved to be the difference, with the visitors offering little at the other end, barring McGoldrick's second-half attempt which hit the crossbar.
The Blades had the first chance of the game and started the better of the two sides as McGoldrick powered wide in the opening stages. Willock and Shelvey both forced good saves before Willock opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time.
Newcastle, whose 1-0 win takes them to 42 points, end their season at Fulham on Sunday. The Blades’ last Premier League game before their return to the Championship sees them host Burnley.
