Wijnaldum played until the 70th minutes in Liverpool's 2-0 win against Crystal Palace at Anfield on the final game day of the season. He was replaced by James Milner and he received a standing ovation from the fans while leaving the pitch.
It was an emotional moment for Wijnaldum who had tears in his eyes. After the game, he shared hu open letter to Liverpool which read thus :
