Portugal are the defending champions of the European Championship and they started with a convincing victory against Hungary in front of 60,000 fans in Budapest.
Ronaldo, 36, who recently finished the 2020-21 season in the Serie A as the top scorer continued with his great form with a brace against Hungary.
Hungarian side were difficult to break down after the game ended goalless in the first half. But the deadlock was broken in the 84th minute when Raphael Guerreiro's shot deflected off defender Willi Orban into the back of the net.
36 years old Cristiano Ronaldo became the top scorer in men's European Championship after he converted an 87th-minute penalty.
Few minutes later, Ronaldo scored his second goal after he took the ball around goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi to complete Portugal 3-0 victory.
After the game UEFA tweeted that Ronaldo is now the top scorer in the competition with 11 goals.
Also, he is Portugal all time goal scorer with a total of 106 goals. The tweet added that the former Manchester United star becomes the first player to feature in five consecutive European tournaments.
