Granit Xhaka was the man of the match as Switzerland came from behind to beat world champions France.
The French national team were the favourites ahead of the game on Monday evening in Bucharest.

But the Swiss captain, Xhaka was inspirational to his side's victory as he guided them to their first-ever European Championship quarter-final.

Switzerland had taken an early lead in the game after Haris Seferovic scored after 15 minutes but they missed a penalty later because Ricardo Rodriguez failed to convert from the spot.

France who were more experienced in the tournament turned the game around after Karim Benzema struck twice inside four minutes before Paul Pogba added the third.

Switzerland refused to give up and with nine minutes to go, Seferovic score his second goal before Granit Xhaka assisted  Mario Gavranovic with a pass to score a 90th-minute equaliser.

After both sides played 120 minutes, the game was decided through a penalty shoot out.

All Switzerland five players scored their penalties as well as all four French players. Kylian Mbappe was the only French player who missed after Yann Sommer saved his penalty.

After the game, captain Granit Xhaka was spotted celebrating wildly with his coach and team mates. The Arsenal midfielder was also awarded with the star man of the match following his performance in the game.
Switzerland will face Spain in Saint Petersburg on Friday, July 2 at 5pm (UK time). Recall that Spain secured their last-eight spot after they defeated Croatia 5-3 in the other fixture.
