Roger Federer has withdrawn from the French Open. Recall that the Swiss reached the fourth round with a late-night win over Dominik Koepfer of Germany.
He was due to face the ninth seed, Matteo Berrettini, who received a walkover into his first Roland Garros quarter-final.

Federer, who is competing in his third tournament since undergoing two surgeries on his knee last year, finished his 7-6 (5), 6-7 (3), 7-6 (3), 7-5 win over Koepfer at 12:44am on Saturday night in a match lasting three hours and 35 minutes

Federer said: “After discussions with my team, I’ve decided I will need to pull out of Roland-Garros today. After two knee surgeries and over a year of rehabilitation it’s important that I listen to my body and make sure I don’t push myself too quickly on my road to recovery. "
