Barcelona and Lionel Messi have finally part ways after two decades at the Camp Nou. The La Liga club confirmed the departure of their 34 years old captain earlier this week.

Recall that Lionel Messi contract with Barcelona expired last month while he was on international duty with Argentina at the Copa America. The 34 years old guided the Albiceleste to lift the trophy after they defeated Brazil in the final.

Meanwhile, Messi has been enjoying every moment of his holiday with his wife Antonela Roccuzzo and their kids somewhere on the island of Ibiza.

Barcelona confirmed on Thursday that they have reached agreement not to extend the contract of Lionel Messi due to "economic" and "financial" obligations. The Catalan club have been trying to "free" their wage bill ahead of the 2021-2022 season.

Lionel Messi guided Barcelona to finish third in the La Liga and they won the Copa del Rey last season.

Messi who is now a free agent received tributes from his team mate and close friend Luis Suarez.

The former Liverpool striker took to his social media space to describe Messi with some "emotional" words. He appreciated Messi because he helped him settle at Barcelona.

Recall that Suarez formed a "formidable" partnership with Messi and Neymar called "MSN".

Sharing the photos on his Instagram page, he captioned: "Chavalín @leomessi I know there are plenty of words to tell THE STORY YOU WRITTEN in @fcbarcelona. The club that saw you grow, the club that you love so much and so many titles you achieved until you became the BEST PLAYER EVER. I will always be grateful for how you received me since I arrived because of what a great human being you are. Proud to have shared thousands of wonderful moments at @fcbarcelona and to be lucky to have played with you. I sincerely hope that what happens in the future is the best for you and your family. I love you so much."
Meanwhile other Barcelona players have shared their tributes to their captain and club legend. Xavi, Carlos puyol, Sergio Busquets, Gerard Pique, Philippe Coutinho, Ansu Fati, Roberto, Riqui Puig and others shared their experiences with Lionel Messi.
