Ansu Fati, 18, has been unveiled as Barcelona's player to wear iconic jersey number 10

Barcelona have finally announced their squad numbers following the closure of the 2021-2022 summer transfer window on Tuesday night.

The Blaugrana have switched some players jersey numbers, especially players who left the club on loan or permanently. The Spanish club have also confirmed the player who will be wearing the iconic jersey number 10.

Recall that the jersey number 10 has been vacated since the departure of Lionel Messi last month. The 34 years old Argentine left the club after 21 years to join Ligue 1 side, Paris Saint-Germain. Lionel Messi won 34 major trophies during his time at Camp Nou, including 10 La Liga titles and four European Cups. The Argentine international also scored scored 674 goals making him their all-time record scorer in the club's history. 

On Wednesday (September 1st 2021), Barcelona have confirmed that Ansu Fati has been handed jersey number 10. Anssumane "Ansu" Fati Vieira is a professional footballer who plays as a forward for La Liga club Barcelona. He was born in Guinea-Bissau but chose to represent the Spain international team.

Barcelona shared video of Ansu being presented with the shirt on social media, with the caption: "Our new number 10. Made in La Masia. ANSUFATI."

The 18-year-old came from the Barcelona's academy, he made his debut in 2012. He has already appeared in 42 games across all competitions, scoring 13 times while becoming the club's youngest ever goalscorer.

Ansu Fati progress was halted by knee injury he suffered in November 2020. The Spanish forward recently returned to full training after nine months on the sidelines. 

Fati, 18, is expected to be available for  Ronald Koeman's side against Bayern Munich in the Champions League group stage after the international break.

Meanwhile, Ousmane Dembélé has been handed new jersey number. The French has switched his number to jersey number 7 after Antoine Griezmann left on loan to Atletico Madrid. Ousmane’s jersey number 11 has been handed to Yusuf Demir. 

Barcelona's deadline day signing Luuk De Jong has been handed jersey number 17 and Óscar Mingueza takes over Emerson Royal’s jersey number 22 shirt after the Brazilian joined Tottenham.
