Barcelona hands Dani Alves 'iconic' jersey number 8 previously worn by Iniesta

New Barcelona signing has revealed his shirt no to the fans ahead of his unveiling today. 

Dani Alaves who has joined on a free transfer is expected to be presented to the fans and media on Wednesday afternoon at the Camp Nou stadium. 

The Brazilian is Xavi Hernandez first signing following the appointment as their new head coach. 

Following a snap he uploaded on his social media space, Alves will wear jersey number 8whjx was previously worn by Iniesta. 

This is the fourth shirt number as a Barcelona player, having worn No.20, No.2 and No.6 during his first spell at the club. The 38-year-old took on the No.6 shirt after Xavi Hernandez departed Barcelona for Al Sadd in 2015. 

This is not the first time that Alves will have donned the No.8, though, as he wore this in his first two seasons at Sevilla. 

Although, Alves cannot be registered until the January transfer window opens on January 1, he now has a month and half of pre-season training ahead of him.

"My humble tribute to you, Iniesta and Hristo Stoichkov. Thank you for allowing me to wear this winning and historic number. Ahhh, it was also my first number in Spain (Sevilla)," Alves wrote as the caption for an Instagram post.
