Dean Smith had been sacked as Aston Villa manager after losing five games in a row

Aston Villa have sacked head coach Dean Smith as their manager. It's been gathered that Dean Smith side have suffered five successive Premier League defeats.

If you recall that Smith was appointed in October 2018, helped earn Villa promotion back to the Premier League in his first season in charge at the club.

Dean Smith guided Villa to narrowly avoid relegation in their first season back in the top flight, and they finished 11th the following campaign and reached the final of the Carabao Cup, where they were beaten by Manchester City.

Aston Villa fifth defeat came against Southampton at the St Mary's stadium on Friday night.
