Wilfred Zaha opened the scoring with a well-taken finish, before Southampton hit back with a quick-fire double just before the break. Ward-Prowse's free-kick was the pick of the lot, as he curled it into the top left-hand corner from 25 yards.
The Saints were slightly more subdued in the second period however, and can have no complaints with Ayew's smart finish from close-range after sustained Palace pressure.
A draw is a result that doesn't do a great deal for either side, but one that neither team can have any real complaints about.
