The Reds went behind after Shrewsbury forward Daniel Udoh got on the end of a dangerous low cross from Nathanael Ogbeta.
However, the lead was short-lived as Kaide Gordon showed great composure to bring Liverpool level. Gordon made the most of a clever pass from Conor Bradley to fire the ball into the back of the net, to become Liverpool's second-youngest goalscorer at 17 years-old.
Just before half time, Shrewsbury conceded a penalty when Ethan Ebanks-Landell handled the ball in the penalty box, Fabinho stepped up to the spot and sent Shrewsbury 'keeper Marko Marosi the wrong way.
