Thiago Silva, 35, has extended his Chelsea contract for another season

Chelsea have confirmed that 35-year-old defender has decided to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge.

Thiago Silva has put pen to paper on a year extension deal with Chelsea. It's been gathered that the new deal will run until 2023.

Thiago Silva express his excitement after signing the new contract saying: ‘To play here with Chelsea is a real pleasure. I never thought I would play for three years here in this great club so I’m very happy to stay for another season.'

If you recall that the Brazilian joined Chelsea last season on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain. He played an important role in Chelsea's UEFA Champions League triumph under Thomas Tuchel last season.

The 35-year-old added: ‘I would also like to say thanks to my family, the club, Marina and to Mr Abramovich for this opportunity. I will continue to give everything for this club and for the supporters, who have always been by my side since I arrived.

‘It’s amazing to have this relationship with the fans and not only that but the players, staff and the whole club. I’m going to give everything to keep playing at this level in the most important league in the world.’
