The full back suffered a knee problem during a Scotland friendly during th international break last week.
According to Mikel Arteta the former Celtic captain returned to the London Colney last week and his knee wasn't looking good.
This made Tierney miss Arsenal's 3-0 thrashing against Crystal Palace on Monday night at the Selhurst Park.
Following his scan result which came out on Tuesday afternoon, its been confirmed that, " Assessments and scans have confirmed that Kieran has damaged his left knee."
The statement added that, "he will require surgery."
Meanwhile Arsenal also suffered another injury when Thomas Partey walked off the pitch. The Ghana international wasn't able to play 90 minutes last night.
This weekend, Arsenal will face Brighton Hove Albion as they hope to bounce back from the disappointing result.
