
Former Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has revealed that his target for Nigeria before he was sacked by the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF.
If you recall that Rohr was sacked few weeks to the African Cup of Nations tournament in Cameroon which saw Austin Eguavoen take charge of Super Eagles.
According to the former Nigerian coach, he wanted to qualify the team for the quarter-final of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
While Speaking with Brila.net after Nigeria’s 2022 FIFA World Cup playoff defeat to Ghana on Tuesday, March 2, Rohr said: “Oh yes, there was a big disappointment after this match (on Tuesday).
“We had all the hope that Nigeria would qualify and believe that the better players are in Nigeria, not in Ghana.
“But sometimes the collective work of a team can be stronger than the individual strength of the other team.
“My target was to go to the World Cup in Qatar and to go at least to the quarter-final and to have a good image of Nigerian football like we had in the last five years.”
Meanwhile Austin Eguavoen announced his decision to step aside as coach of Nigeria after the they failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar later this year following the defeat to Ghana.
