Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has come out about his rivalry Jose Mourinho stating that it started in 2004, when Chelsea began spending money they did not earn'.

Wenger who is currently FIFA's Head of Global Football Development, had an intense rivalry that began at the time Mourinho currently managing AS Roma, originally arrived in England in 2004 following Roman Abramovich took over Chelsea in 2003.

With money from billionaire Chelsea has signed players such as Didier Drogba Petr Cech Arjen Robben Ricardo Carvalho, Paulo Ferreira, Matej Kezman, and many more such as Essien, Mikel Obi, Deco players who ultimately resulted in Mourinho to claim the title of the premier league and establish Chelsea's dominance within the league.

"My rivalry was more with the clubs than the persons, I never made any statements on a personal level," Wenger said to Sky Sports.

"I had a lot of aggravation with [Jose] Mourinho at the time because I felt that Chelsea were the first club that came in and spent money they didn't earn."

Despite the rivalry dating all the way to the beginning the most infamous clash between the two could have occurred in February 2014 the time Mourinho ridiculed Wenger by saying that he was a specialist in failure'. Later in the year, they were at war on the pitch.

Wenger later sang lyrical about the "turning point" for football, which included his comments about the Premier League being the introduction of Financial Fair Play.

The Financial Fair Play was introduced in 2009 by UEFA in an effort to reduce spending too much and make clubs more willing to pay in proportion to their earnings.

"At that time you didn't have Financial Fair Play, since the year 2004, they have developed a fair financial play, and they have more control over the financials of the teams,' the official explained.

Overall, this was the pivotal moment.'
