How to Qualify for the Child Tax Credit
There are two qualifications that must be met in order to qualify for thr Child Tax credit just incase you didn't know.
1. The person receiving the credit must be a qualifying taxpayer: this states that "A taxpayer may be entitled to credits with respect to siblings, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews if they meet the dependency, age, citizenship, and residency requirements." Although an adopted and foster children also can qualify for the child tax credit.
2. The dependent child also must meet tax law requirements: this states that individuals must be U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, or U.S. resident aliens and must meet the dependency, age, and residency requirements.
How to Claim the Child Tax Credit
A Taxpayer can claim the Child Tax Credit through file Form 1040 even if the tax payer does not file a Federal tax return.
The taxpayer is, expected to attach Schedule 8812 (Credits for Qualifying Children and Other Dependents).

Schedule 8812 is used to determine the amount of Child Tax Credit a taxpayer is eligible for.
