Premier League: Arsenal held to a 1-1 draw against Southampton after Armstrong goal cancels Granit Xhaka opening strike

Arsenal were held to a 1-1 draw against Southampton against Saint Mary's stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Gunners settled for a point as they continue their fine form in the Premier League season.

Xhaka put Arsenal in the lead 

Arsenal took the early lead after Granit Xhaka's fine right-footed. 

The Swiss midfielder connected to a Ben White cross put them ahead in the 11th minute.

Mikel Arteta side dominated in the first half and could have converted several chances in the game. 

Southampton equalised 

Arsenal's lead remained a slender one and they were made to pay when Stuart Armstrong's composed finish pulled Southampton level.

The Saints benefitted from a counter attack with saw Armstrong score the equaliser to share the points.

What this means? 

The result sees the Gunners move two points clear at the top as they extends their nine games in all competitions.
