Bologna striker Marko Arnautovic claims Manchester United "didn't have enough money" to acquire him five years ago.
During the summer, the Red Devils were also interested in Arnautovic, but no deal was made.
The Austrian signed a bad contract to move to China in 2019 despite being one of the Premier League's best attackers.
He had previously played for Stoke City and West Ham United, and Jose Mourinho was interested in bringing him to Old Trafford while he was at those two clubs.
Arnautovic, on the other hand, has now made it clear that Mourinho was unable to acquire Paul Pogba because United acquired him.
He claims that the Red Devils lacked the funds to sign Pogba after spending over £80 million on him.
“He already knows. He wanted me when I was at West Ham. He asked me: ‘How much does it cost?’ And I said: ‘Ah, do you still want me?’
“But his Manchester United had already bought Pogba and they did not have enough money for me,” Arnautovic told Gazzetta dello Sport.
