Brazilian midfielder, Fred made it three in the 87 minutes of the game at the Old Trafford stadium.
Manchester United dominated Nottingham Forest in the Premier League as additional evidence of their resurgence was provided by Marcus Rashford, who maintained his excellent play.
Rashford then set up Anthony Martial to shoot, but Wayne Hennessey of Forest should have blocked it.
Fred added a late third to give fifth-placed United the victory they deserved.
Erik ten Hag's team has only lost once in eight league games since losing the Manchester derby 6-3.
United will prepare themselves for their next Premier League clash against Wolverhampton.
The Red Devils will travel to the Molineux stadium on Saturday afternoon kick off, 1:30pm GMT.
