Netherlands star Virgil Van Dijk spotted protecting Lionel Messi from his own teammates

Argentina are through to the semi final of the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar after their victory over Netherlands. 

The South American side are among the favorites to win the FIFA competition this year in Qatar and Messi has been inspiring the team. 

It was another great performance from the 35 years old PSG star on Friday evening at the Lusail Stadium. 

Argentina's Lionel Messi led his team to a thrilling 4-3 victory over the Netherlands on penalties in the 2022 FIFA World Cup quarterfinals.

Emiliano Martinez, Argentina's top goalkeeper, made two saves before Lautaro Martinez converted the game-winning penalty to advance Argentina to the semifinals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Lionel Messi had already scored his penalty in the shootout.

The game witness alot of tension between the two teams after the final whistle. One the moment saw Netherlands players tried to attack Lionel Messi. 

However, Netherlands national team captain, Virgil van Dijk was spotted protecting Lionel Messi from his own teammates.

The Liverpool defender could be seen wrapping his arms round the PSG as he prevented his team mates from touching Lionel Messi. 

Also, Argentina's Paulo Dybala was seen wearing jersey no 21 as he approached the scene to hold back Netherlands Nathan Ake.
