Fans of Manchester United were left stunned after The English international was benched in their trip to Molineux stadium on Saturday.
The 25-year-old is currently in form, scoring three goals in his last three games for Manchester United.
Despite the fact that Rashford, 25, had scored twice in his first two games back from the World Cup, the Dutchman chose to sit him out of the trip to Molineux.
Speaking to BT Sport after full-time, he said: "I was a little bit late for a meeting - I overslept.
"It's the team rules and it's a mistake that can happen, but I'm disappointed not to play, but I understand the decision and I'm happy that we managed to win the game anyway.
But after coming on as a substitute at halftime, he scored the game-winning goal before a VAR review disallowed a second for handball.
The victory means that Manchester United moved into the top four spot.
