The morning after losing the World Cup final, French players were photographed leaving Qatar for home.

Despite Kylian Mbappe's hat-trick, Les Bleus lost to Argentina at the Lusail Stadium on Sunday night, 4-2 on penalties. The game ended 2-2 after 90 minutes and 3-3 after extra time.

French manager Didier Deschamps was stern-faced as the squad's coach left for the airport as the French team left their hotel early on Monday.

Boss Deschamps is rumored to be in the midst of discussions over his future, with Noel Le Graet of the French Football Federation telling RMC Sport that he wants to meet with the 54-year-old "as soon as possible" to speak about a contract extension.

In the first half, Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria each converted penalties, and Messi added another in the second half to force a shootout.

Le Graet said he needed time to "process all of this," but it is anticipated that official negotiations will begin in early- to mid-January.

Whether the team will greet supporters on Monday night at Place de la Concorde in the heart of Paris remains unknown after returning in the afternoon. They should arrive about 6 o'clock local time.
