Lionel Messi will return to Paris Saint-Germain in early January following the World Cup, according to manager Christophe Galtier.

In his seven appearances, Lionel Messi contributed significantly to Argentina's success at the most recent international competition, scoring seven goals and providing three assists.

Messi scored twice against France in the championship game, and he also scored in the shootout, helping Argentina defeat France on penalties and win the trophy.

“Leo [Messi] also had a very big World Cup,” Galtier told reporters.

“Due to his victory and the celebrations in Argentina, we decided that he was going to cut until January 1. He will join us on the 2nd or 3rd to resume competition with us.”

If you recall that Messi missed PSG 2-1 win over Strasbourg on Wednesday night at the Parc des Princes.

Goals from Marquinhos and 90th-minute Kylian Mbappe goal ensured that PSG secured victory, despite Neymar receiving a red card.

Therefore, Messi's next PSG game could be against Chateauroux on January 6 in the Coupe de France, but it seems more likely that he will play against Angers on January 11.

In 19 appearances across all competitions, the former Barcelona forward has been in excellent form for the French champions in 2022-23, netting 12 goals and providing 14 assists.

The 35-year-old has scored seven goals and ten assists in 13 Ligue 1 games this season, as well as four goals and four assists in five Champions League group games.
