Argentina qualified for the semi final in the ongoing World Cup 2022 in Qatar after their hard fought win over Netherlands.

The game recorded a total of 14 bookings over the course of 128 minutes – six for the Netherlands, eight for Argentina – plus a yellow card for Argentina assistant Walter Samuel and a red card for Denzel Dumfries.

Argentina believed they had won the match after Nahuel Molina and subsequently Messi handed the South Americans a two-goal advantage.

Wout Weghorst scored twice for the Dutch, including a goal in the 90th and 11th minute to tie the score and force extra time.

The first two Netherlands penalties from Virgil van Dijk and Berghuis were saved by Emiliano Martinez, giving the Dutch a mountain to climb. Lautaro Martinez converted the crucial penalty to advance his team to the semifinals, where they will take on Croatia on Tuesday.
There were several controversial points from the game which was officiated by Spanish referee Antonio Mateu Lahoz.

The Argentine team has been under the spotlight over their players conduct after the game, which Lionel Messi seems to have led the revolt.

Many football fans have called on FIFA to sanction the PSG star following his comments after the match.

This article takes a look at Lionel Messi antics after the penalty shoot out...

Lionel Messi insulted Spanish referee Antonio Mateu Lahoz:

The 35-year-old was seen speaking to the ref Lahoz after the match as he spoke about decisions that didn't go in favour of his team.

During the post match conference Messi urged the World governing body to review the officiating.

'This match shouldn't have ended as it did. I don't want to talk about the referee because they sanction you, but people watched what happened,' he told reporters.

'We were afraid before the match because we knew how he was and I think FIFA has to review this, you can't put a referee like him for these matches.'

Lionel Messi confronted Netherlands coach, Louis Van Gaal

Messi was pictured taunting the Dutch boss after the penalty shoot out. The Argentine captain was snapped cupping their ears towards the Dutch with Messi pictured doing so in the direction of Van Gaal and his assistant Edgar Davids.

Speaking to the reporters, he said: "Van Gaal says that they play good football, but what he did was put tall people and hit long balls."

Lionel Messi insults a Dutch player

The former Barcelona star interrupted his press conference to insult a Netherlands player.

Messi said: “What are you looking at? Continue ahead, fool”

Conclusion: If FIFA takes a look into these incidences, Lionel Messi and his Argentine team could be sanction ahead of their Croatia game.
