Uruguay players ambushed the referee after their World Cup Group stage game against Ghana.

Edinson Cavani who is the captain of of the team was shown a yellow card after he attacked the referee.

The former Manchester United star wasn't happy with decision of ref to wave off a penalty call late in the game, with Uruguay in need of more than two goals to qualify for the knockout stage.

The South American side faced the Black Stars of Ghana in their final group stage match on Friday Dec 2nd 2022.

In their final group stage match, Uruguay defeated Ghana 2-0, but the victory was insufficient to guarantee them a place in the last 16.

This is due to the fact that South Korea defeated Portugal 2-1 in the other Group H match, placing the Asian nation ahead of their South American counterparts in terms of goals scored in the tournament's next round.

When Edinson Cavani was brought down in the final minute, Uruguay thought they should have been given a penalty as they tried to score another goal.

The Uruguayan team was enraged by his decision not to award a penalty, and after the game was over, they publicly criticized the German referee and his staff.

In shocking scenes, Uruguay players snuck up on the officials and argued angrily, with backup goalkeeper Fernando Muslera appearing to shove the linesman.

Cavani received a yellow card for his protests during Uruguay's World Cup exit for his attack at the match official.

Meanwhile the Uruguayan side finished third in their Group while Ghana are fourth.
