Liverpool paid a high price for their shoddy defensive play as Brentford defeated them 3-1 to claim another illustrious victim.

An own goal by Ibrahima Konate and a goal by Yoane Wissa gave the Bees the upper hand, forcing Reds manager Jurgen Klopp to replace crucial defender Virgil van Dijk at halftime out of frustration.

The Reds were killed off by Bryan Mbeumo as they lost more ground in the fight for a top-four Premier League finish despite Alex Oxlade-goal. Chamberlain's

Without Ivan Toney, Brentford had no issues this season as Liverpool suffered the same fate as Manchester United and Manchester City.

Nunez's attempt was cleared off the line by Ben Mee in the fifth minute, and Mbeumo's attempt was then stopped by Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson at the other end.

With the help of some luck, Brentford took the lead when Konate connected with a corner with his knee and sent the ball trickling into his own net.

Wissa bundled the ball into the goal and thought he had doubled Brentford's lead, but the goal was disallowed because the forward had already left the field.

Wissa, however, made it third time lucky by heading the ball past Alisson and over the goal line in just 13 seconds.

At halftime, Liverpool coach Klopp made a drastic substitution, removing Konstantinos Tsimikas, Harvey Elliott, and Virgil van Dijk. The team got better in the second half, and after Oxlade-Chamberlain cut the deficit in half, they surrounded Brentford in their own end to try and score a goal.

However, Brentford surprised them with a counterattack. Christian Norgaard launched a long diagonal ball in Mbeumo's direction, and Mbeumo outmuscled Konate to score.
