According to the Italian publication Calciomercatoweb, Chelsea allegedly made a fresh formal offer to capture SL Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez in January.
The 22-year-old paid almost £8 million to join the Eagles from River Plate last summer. The young man quickly adapted to his new circumstances and immediately gave Liga Portugal his greatest performance. Fernandez received a call-up to the Argentina national team for the World Cup in Qatar after a strong start to his life in the city of Portugal.
The midfielder was crucial during the competition, assisting his country in winning the World Cup for the first time in 36 years. And after enjoying success in Qatar, the teenager has caught the interest of many top teams in Europe, including Chelsea.
It is quite evident that Benfica does not want to offload its best player this winter. And only if his prospective suitors invoke his €120 million (£106 million) release clause would he be permitted to depart. Despite knowing how highly rated he is, only Chelsea has expressed a genuine interest in signing him.
Nevertheless, it has lately been claimed that Chelsea has rekindled its interest in signing Fernandez and is eager to do so before the transfer market closes next week.
In order to compete at the greatest level, Chelsea intends to employ all of their financial resources to bolster the team over the upcoming months, according to the Calciomercatoweb article.
According to the report, Potter's team has chosen Fernandez as their main priority to reinforce the midfield and has made a fresh offer of about €100 million (£88 million) plus Hakim Ziyech in return to entice the Argentine to Stamford Bridge this month.
