William Gallas, a former Chelsea defender, explains why center-back. Kalidou Koulibaly has had a difficult start to his Chelsea career.
During his eight years at Napoli, Koulibaly solidified his position as one of the top defenders in Europe.
The Senegal international's £33 million move to Chelsea last summer, however, has not gone as expected.
The 31-year-old has yet to rediscover his English Premier League Serie A form.
Gallas also thinks Koulibaly is having trouble at Chelsea because the league and playing style are different.
“Kalidou Koulibaly is struggling at Chelsea because it’s a different league and style,” Gallas told Genting Casino.
“To play in England and to play in Italy are two different things.
“Your teammates are different. You aren’t the best defender in your team. In Napoli, he was the best defender, at Chelsea, it’s different.
“You aren’t the main guy, so you’ve got to adapt. In my opinion, when you’re coming from another league, you need at least one year to adapt, especially if you’ve family. So you need to adapt,” he said.
Meanwhile, Chelsea haven't been convincing enough in the season so far. The Blues crashed out of the FA Cup after 4-0 defeat to Manchester City last week.
Graham Potter men are sitting in 10th position in the Premier League table, but could better their result with a win against Fulham.
The West London side are facing Fulham in the derby this Thursday evening.
