Following Arsenal's victory in the North London derby, Garth Crooks named Ben White to his team of the week, telling BBC Sport that the defender quietly stood out for the Gunners.
By defeating Tottenham 2-0 on their home field on Sunday, Mikel Arteta's team increased its lead at the top of the Premier League standings.
With strong performances across the board against Antonio Conte's team, the Gunners were outstanding. The man of the match award was given to Aaron Ramsdale. Martin Odegaard and Thomas Partey walked throughout the entire game. Additionally, Ryan Sessegnon had an absolute nightmare thanks to Bukayo Saka.
White has excelled all season long at right defender. The 25-year-old appears to be entirely at ease in the role. And as a result of his work in that position, he is currently one of the first names on the team sheet.
And Crooks asserted that his performance against Son Heung-min on Sunday merits a lot of praise.
“Both Gabriel and William Saliba have featured in my teams this season but less so Ben White. I thought the defender was outstanding against Tottenham,” he told BBC Sport.
“He did his job quietly and effectively and dealt with the threat of Son Heung-min brilliantly. In fact there was a moment in the first half when he had Son in his pocket.”
The management of Mikel Arteta's three possibilities for the front line center-back position this season was always going to be interesting to watch. There was undoubtedly a lot of support for William Saliba before to his much anticipated team debut.
However, White and Gabriel Magalhaes had a successful alliance the previous year.
But Arteta has managed to squeeze all three into his side. And it doesn't seem like Arsenal is making any concessions to include them all in the team.
White can certainly function as a third center-back. But he appears to be equally at ease flying down the line and supporting Saka. But Arteta has managed to squeeze all three into his side. And it doesn't seem like Arsenal is making any concessions to include them all in the team.
