Cristiano Ronaldo, a Portuguese striker, has left Manchester United with bitterness and joined the Saudi Arabian team Al Nassr.

One of the greatest careers in the annals of elite European football is thought to have come to an end with Ronaldo's move.

The Saudi Arabian club, Al-Nassr confirmed the deal with a tweet which reads: “This is a signing that will not only inspire our club to achieve even greater success but inspire our league, our nation and future generations, boys and girls to be the best version of themselves. Welcome @Cristiano to your new home @AlNassrFC.”

The five-time winner of the Ballon d'Or trophy has won the Champions League five times, four times with Real Madrid and once with Manchester United. His 140 goals are the most ever scored in Europe's top club competition.

With 450 goals overall for Real Madrid, Ronaldo is also the club's all-time leading scorer. Last year, he broke the record for most goals scored by a player in men's international football, and he currently leads Portugal with 118 senior goals.

Who is Al Nassr manager?

Rudi Garcia, a former manager of Lyon, now leads Al Nassr, a team that includes ex-Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina and forward Vincent Aboubakar of Cameroon.

The Riyadh-based team has won Saudi Arabia's top division nine times, a total only surpassed by Al Hilal, who have won 18 championships.

The Portuguese striker's contract with the Saudi Pro League team will last for two and a half years, ending in June 2025. Once commercial agreements are taken into account, the player's annual salary will total €214m. The contract is reportedly the highest wage ever given to a professional football player.

No financial details of the agreement were disclosed in the official announcement announcing the transfer, but sources consulted by this newspaper have denied that his salary will exceed $200 million per season.

Ronaldo is also anticipated to take on an ambassadorial role for the hotly rumored 2030 World Cup, which is reportedly being considered by Saudi Arabia, Greece, and Egypt.
