According to Aaron Ramsdale, the summer transfer of Alex Zinchenko to Arsenal took him off surprise and happened rapidly.
Ramsdale stated on The Fellas Podcast that he was very certain that Gabriel Jesus would be joining from Manchester City in advance.
However, Zinchenko followed the same route from the Etihad Stadium, and the £32 million transaction was completed far more quickly.
When asked whether he knows when new arrivals are coming before they are announced, Ramsdale said: “(Whether the players know ahead of time) depends on how well documented the transfer is.
“Gabriel Jesus, I knew basically 85-90 per cent he was coming to us. That’s just a case of social media doing its thing and knowing the type of person the manager wants."
According to The Athletic, Lisandro Martinez was once Arsenal's first candidate to step in and fill the position that Zinchenko has now taken.
Before the price exceeded what Arsenal was willing to pay and they moved on to Zinchenko, there was some back and forth in the discussions with Ajax.
Martinez, who moved to center-half for United, is a more pure left-back option than the Ukrainian international.
As he attempts to clinch the Premier League table, Mikel Arteta has now moved for Jakub Kiwior, giving him another option at left central defense.
Ramsdale added: “Zinchenko on the other hand, out of the blue! That gathered speed in about four days. That was literally ‘Arsenal interested in Man City star Zinchenko’ from someone on Twitter, thought nothing of it, you hear all sorts.
“Two days later, deal agreed. Three days later, he’s meeting the team.”
