An elderly jeweler from Brooklyn, New York, who was brutally beaten by two thieves during a $100,000 robbery, was fighting for his life as of Wednesday, January 4, while the search for the suspects' whereabouts.
The 79-year-old grandfather of nine, Manny Cohen, a father of three, was still in the hospital after being attacked on December 30 inside Roxy Jewelry on Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn. Around 5:30 p.m., the thieves broke into the shop where he was working by himself. Despite no arrests being made in the case, police claimed the two men made off with more than $100,000 worth of goods.
The family believes this was not the first time the suspects targeted the man, the son said, adding that there had been other prior incidents. He was still in shock following the attack.
In an attempted robbery that left the 779-year-old man bleeding from the head, the son described how a "upcoming" robber entered the store around Thanksgiving while carrying a sizable rock. He claimed that the individuals suspected of carrying out the pre-New Year's robbery and assault may have carried out the earlier attack.
