Luis Suarez was quick to announce his debut for his new club, Grêmio in Brazil scoring three times.
The former Barcelona and Atletico Madrid great, who had just left his childhood club Nacional for the second time, had a successful start to life in Brazil.
Tuesday night in the Recopa Gaucha, Luis Suarez had a fairytale start for Gremio, scoring a hat-trick in the first 38 minutes of their 4-1 victory over Sao Luiz.
After a brief stint with the Uruguayan team, the 35-year-old left his childhood club Nacional for the second time last month. He then made the decision to take on a new challenge in Brazil by signing a two-year contract with Gremio.
He opened his account in less than five minutes, so he did not need much time to get comfortable. Suarez kept his composure after seizing a bouncing through pass and skillfully floated the ball over the advancing goalie to put his team ahead.
Nine minutes later, Sao Luiz equalized, but Bitello, Suarez's teammate, regained Gremio's advantage before Suarez took it upon himself to end the game.
Just beyond the halfway point, he scored his second goal with the kind of precision finish that during his peak made him one of the most feared attackers in European football.
Seven minutes before halftime, he scored his third goal, taking advantage of the Sao Luiz goalkeeper's misplaced footwork to volley past two defenders and into the far corner of the goal.
