Top Manchester United executives have acknowledged that the Brazilian footballer Antony, who joined the club from Ajax last year after signing an £85 million ($103 million) contract, was overpriced.
The agreement ensured the 22-year-old winger's reunion with Erik ten Hag, his former Ajax manager. In addition, it made the football player, who was signed by a British club, the fourth most expensive player, behind Jack Grealish, Romelu Lukaku, and Paul Pogba.
Antony scored in his United debut against Arsenal, but he has only managed four more attempts since then and has been polarizing fans with his showboating and overuse of his left foot.
According to a recent ESPN article, Man United executives have admitted they overpaid for a player whose initial asking price was £53 million ($64 million).
As the 2022 summer transfer window came to an end, Ajax found themselves having to part with a number of senior stars, including Lisandro Martinez, who is now playing for Old Trafford. As a result, the valuation increased.
