Mikel Arteta eyes new midfielder for Arsenal after midfielder suffers injury in training

Arsenal is looking for a new midfielder before the transfer season ends, according to Mikel Arteta.

Before his team's FA Cup fourth-round match against Manchester City on Friday, Arteta expressed his wish for a new midfielder to join his squad.

Due to a recent injury worry for Mohamed Elneny, he admitted he wants more protection in the midfield.

The Egyptian midfielder was left off of Arsenal's matchday roster for the 3-2 victory against Manchester United because the club has been linked to moves for Moises Caicedo of Brighton and Amadou Onana of Everton.

Mikel Arteta will be hoping to secure the move a midfielder before the January window shut down, with Albert Sambi Lokonga the only central midfielder available. 

The Arsenal boss has refused to confirm the length of Elneny injury but seems he could be out for a long time. 

The Gunners travel to the Etihad Stadium on Friday night in their fourth round FA Cup tie.
