Phil Foden appeared calm and focused during Manchester City's training session on Tuesday as he attempts to reclaim a starting position under Pep Guardiola.

Foden and Joao Cancelo haven't started any of City's three games since the World Cup ended, and both players' most recent appearances in the Premier League against Leeds and Everton and the Carabao Cup fourth-round victory over Liverpool were limited to cameos.

With City playing Chelsea in a crucial match on Thursday, Foden was seen on Tuesday receiving a huge hug from his manager before diving into the practice, indicating that the England star was eager to impress to regain his starting position.
Walker's playing time is still being managed due to a groin injury, but the other two are intriguing because of their outstanding performances in the previous two championship victories.

Given Cancelo's rocky start to the season in a defense where he has already given up just 10 goals less than the entire previous campaign, center-back Nathan Ake has been chosen for the left back position ahead of Cancelo.

In contrast, Foden has only started one of City's last six games across all leagues.

In the wide areas, Jack Grealish and Riyad Mahrez are preferred, so Foden's continued omission initially seems perplexing.
