Southampton vs Aston Villa's game was momentarily stopped after a drone was flying over the stadium at the St Mary's stadium.
A drone was seen hovering over the stadium at St. Mary's on Saturday afternoon, forcing the referee to momentarily pause Southampton's Premier League match against Aston Villa. The flying object entered the stadium and hovered above the field, leaving the referee with little choice but to order players from both sides off the field.
Just before halftime, with the South Coast team leading 0-0, the game was stopped when referee Michael Salisbury saw a suspicious drone circling the field.
The game was stopped possibly as a result of fans pointing to the top of the Chapel End stand above Gavin Bazunu's goal and a problem with the digital clock on the big screen.
Captains James Ward-Prowse and Emiliano Martinez, together with coaches Nathan Jones and Unai Emery, were conferred before deciding to remove the players off the field as security personnel worked to remove the flying item from the arena.
The drone was tough for security personnel to remove from being a distraction for the players since it was hovering so high above the ground.
