Tanker drivers protesting the alleged murder of their colleague by a soldier blocked the busy road along the Zaria-Kano highway, causing tension.
On January 11, 2023, around 3:30 pm, the incident reportedly took place close to Tashar Yari in the Makarfi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
It is unknown what caused the late driver and the soldier who was working for a construction company to fight.
Acting Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Lawal Garba, confirmed that the protesting drivers had blocked the road and that the driver had died in the incident. He added that other security agencies had been contacted to help resolve the issue and reopen the highway.
The culprit is already in military custody, said Daily Trust.
State Commissioner of Police Yekini Ayoku, according to State Police Command spokesperson DSP Mohammed Jalige, who confirmed the event, had ordered an investigation.
