Riyad Mahrez of Manchester City would start for any team in the world every week, according to Michael Owen.
The Algerian player's benching, he said, was embarrassing, but it also demonstrated the depth of Pep Guardiola's squad.
Mahrez scored the game-winning goal for Manchester City in their 1-0 Premier League victory over Chelsea on Tuesday night after coming off the bench.
Mahrez, who has complained about how difficult it is to start on City's bench, was instrumental in reducing Arsenal's Premier League lead to five points once more.
The international from Algeria has developed into a super sub, consistently scoring for Pep Guardiola's team after coming off the bench.
Mahrez has scored more Premier League goals as a substitute than any other player since joining Manchester City in 2018
“Any team would do anything to have Mahrez in their starting eleven every single week.
“You can bring in £100m off the bench in Jack Grealish but Mahrez off the bench with the goalscoring record in Man City, [it gives you the confidence] as a manager when you have that type of fire power,” Owen said on Premier League Productions.
