Thomas Partey will undergo an MRI scan this weekend for a rib ailment, according to Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal.

During the second half of the FA Cup fourth-round loss to Manchester City, the midfielder was forced off due to the problem.

On Friday night, Arsenal's pursuit of the Premier League championship had to be put on wait as they returned to FA Cup competition with a fourth-round matchup. That's not to suggest that, when they played rival Manchester City, nobody was keeping an eye on the storyline surrounding the drive at the top of the league.

The encounter provided an opportunity for the Gunners to remedy that wrong and assess their present standing in relation to their previous five matches versus the Citizens in all competitions. Despite their best efforts, the home team prevailed 1-0 thanks to a goal from Nathan Ake.

Mikel Arteta's newest injury worry is Partey, who had to be substituted in the FA Cup loss to Manchester City by a score of 1-0. The Ghanaian international was injured in the ribcage in the first half and was replaced by Albert Sambi Lokonga at halftime as a result of his deteriorating condition.

What Mikel Arteta said: "He had some discomfort and it was getting worse and worse. He could not continue and he was not comfortable to continue. No initial diagnosis. Tomorrow, or the day after it will have to be an MRI scan and we’ll see what he has."
