Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin, an actress who was charged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with spraying fresh naira notes at a party, has been granted bail by the Federal High Court in Lagos.
Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke stipulated that the surety must hold a valid statutory certificate of occupancy of a developed landed property within the Lagos State Municipality or be a public servant in the service of the Federation or the Lagos State Government not below the rank of Grade Level 12. The actress was also granted bail in the amount of N5 million with one surety in the same amount.
The court also ruled that a certified true copy (CTC) of the original statutory certificate of occupancy of the landed property and, in the case of a public servant, an official letter from the head of department stating the surety's status and salary level, must be deposited with the court's registrar.
Additionally, the surety must present the court with two copies of his most recent passport photo and proof of tax payment.
Before postponing the case until April 3 for trial, the judge also directed that the actress be further remanded in the Kirikiri detention center pending the completion of the bail terms.
A two-count charge of tampering with N100,000 issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and dancing on the same at the said occasion was brought against the actress by the EFCC before the court on February 13.
Sulaiman Sulaiman, the prosecutor, claimed that the offense violated and was punishable by section 21 (1) of the Central Bank Act, 2007.
The actress had disputed the charge and entered a not-guilty plea.
After the actress entered a not-guilty plea, her attorney, Adenike Goncalves, requested that her client be given bail pending the hearing and outcome of the case.
Adenike Goncalves also urged the court to remand her client in the EFCC's custody while the bail conditions are being fulfilled, if the court were to grant it.
