Leandro Trossard may take the place of Gabriel Martinelli on Wednesday, according to Ian Wright's latest suggestion for the Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.
Wright provided a preview of Arsenal's top-of-the-table matchup with Manchester City while appearing on The Kelly and Wrighty Show.
It's a crucial game for Mikel Arteta's team, who currently lead their closest competitors by three points.
Arsenal has lost each of their last three games in all competitions, including an FA Cup loss to Man City.
For the first time since November, if they lose tomorrow, Pep Guardiola's team will overtake them.
In the previous two games, the Gunners weren't playing at their peak.
At Goodison Park, Everton defeated them legitimately, handing them just their second league loss of the year.
Even though they didn't play their best against Brentford over the weekend, a VAR error cost them two points.
Arteta now has another attacking option thanks to the January acquisition of £27 million forward Leandro Trossard.
Ian Wright now thinks that Arteta may replace Trossard with Gabriel Martinelli on Wednesday in order to change up the lineup.
Wright said the following in reference to Arteta's potential selection conundrum: “You look at [Leandro] Trossard who has been fantastic since he came in.
“We are hearing people talking about [Gabriel] Martinelli and Trossard and who is going to play and that’s what you want.
“That’s what you need, you need people challenging people for places because you want people to be performing at the very highest level that they can because that’s what is going to be needed, especially on that side against someone like Kyle Walker.
“Apart from that I can’t really see too many changes in the rest of the team because that’s what he’s been doing, he’s been keeping it very similar.”
Martinelli has had a great season despite a slight relapse in performance recently.
Leaving themselves too open on the right could put Man City in trouble due to his directness and pace.
Trossard, on the other hand, has gotten off to a fast start at The Emirates and made his debut for Arsenal against Brentford.
Wright thinks Trossard might replace Martinelli in the Man City match, but Arteta ultimately has the final say.
