Chelsea new signing, Malo Gusto picks up injury

Malo Gusto moved from Lyon to Stamford Bridge in January and later returned there on loan. He has since appeared to sustain a hamstring injury in the Coupe de France.

Malo Gusto, who joined Chelsea in January, may have an injury after being taken off during the opening period of Lyon's game against Lille on Wednesday. After the game had been going for 30 minutes, the full-back left the field, appearing to be holding his hamstring.

The 19-year-old's injury is not yet known to be severe, but if it is determined to be a hamstring problem, minor problems may allow him to return to play soon, while major issues may keep him out for two to eight weeks. Given the importance of his development at this point in his career, both clubs will be hoping it isn't the latter.

Gusto, a player with a lot of potential and a different right-back option, joined the Blues from Lyon in January in a deal estimated to be worth £26.9 million. It might be a wise move for the team given Reece James' injury issues there and Cesar Azpilicueta's inability to advance the ball or pose an attacking threat.

The defender was a crucial member of the team who they didn't want to lose, so he was later returned on loan to Lyon for the remainder of the campaign. Gusto would be given more playing time, which he might not have had at Stamford Bridge right away, allowing him to advance.
