The 19-year-old defender, who sustained the injury in the first half of a French Cup match against Lille that Gusto's team ultimately won on penalties, will spend time under the care of the Blues' medical staff at Cobham, the London-based club has confirmed.
Gusto left Lyon for Chelsea in January for a fee of £26.3 million, but he was immediately loaned back to the French team to pursue his career.
But before getting hurt last week, he only made two more appearances for Lyon, adding to the 15 he had already made before joining the Premier League team in January.
Gusto is working with his new colleagues at Chelsea rather than in France, though it appears the situation is more serious than first thought.
For Lyon, who are currently ninth in Ligue 1, Gusto's absence is a major setback because he has been a consistent starter for the team.
Without Gusto, Lyon will take on Auxerre in a league matchup on Friday night, while Chelsea's next opponent will be Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday.
