Bruno Fernandes has revealed that Ricardo Quaresma, a former international teammate of Bruno Fernandes', inspired the brilliant pass that helped Manchester United advance to the Carabao Cup final.
Erik Den Hag side recorded 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest in the second leg tie of the League Cup semi final game on Wednesday night.
Second half goals from Fred and Anthony Martial were enough to book their spot in Wembley for the final.
With the outside of his foot, Fernandes deftly guided a cross to the back post for Marcus Rashford, whose cushioned touch to deflect the ball back into the box resulted in Fred tapping home to give United a 2-0 lead and the victory over Nottingham Forest in the end.
Just three minutes earlier, Anthony Martial, who had just come off the bench, had given United the lead as they cruised to a 5-0 aggregate victory in the semifinal match. Fred's goal came with 14 minutes remaining.
However, when questioned about how he learnt his extraordinary skill after the game, Fernandes disclosed that he did so from legendary Portuguese winger Quaresma, who gained 80 caps for his country between 2003 and 2018 and spent a brief time on loan at Chelsea in 2009.
‘I learned from Quaresma so I had a great professor in Portugal so you have to learn with the players. You have to learn their tricks and use them’, he told Sky Sports on the pitch after the game, standing alongside team-mate Luke Shaw.
‘As Luke said, one in 20 is not bad! I’m really happy for the performance of the team and for the goals we had created.'
The Red Devils will play Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley later this month thanks to Fernandes' dominant center midfield display.
It is the Portugal star's first opportunity to win a trophy with United, who haven't won one since they won the Europa League in 2017 under Jose Mourinho.
He added: ‘We had some chances and could have scored more but I think Nottingham [Forest] defended really well. It was tough to get into their defence but we did it. We won and we are into the final so we are very happy with that.’
